SAME ROOM BRAND NEW LOOK

How to... redesign your living room

Spring is the perfect time to clear out the old and give your living room a new lease of life for the coming sun. You can refresh your existing room with a lick of paint, re-jig the layout or introduce a signature piece of furniture to bring the room bang up to date.

Andy Bradbury shares his top tips on how you can easily inject some style into your living room.

1 Freshen up Choose your paint carefully to create the perfect backdrop. A subtle or neutral colour palette is very on trend this season; it brings a light, refreshing feel to the room. This understated approach allows you to add a touch of wow by choosing accessories and soft furnishings in strong accent colours. Vibrant, patterned cushions and coloured ceramic vases can be purchased at a reasonable cost from many high street stores, which means you can change your look as often as you wish!

2 Use the light Take the available light and outside views into account when you position your seating. If possible, try creating a window seat for a bright and inviting reading spot.

3 Focal point A change is as good as a rest they say, so why not rethink the layout of your room? Are you making the most of the space available to you? What do you want to be the focal point of the space - an oversized TV or a striking coffee table?

They don’t come much more striking than Leolux’s unique Blocco occasional table, playful and versatile and divided into three sections which rotate independently of each other. So you can stack them up or swivel them out. The bottom section even has a hidden store for remote controls, pens or glasses.

See Channel 4’s Plan and Design your Living Room for some more focal point ideas.

4 Mix it up If you have an open plan living space, extend your kitchen units into the living room, with side units, low coffee tables or display cabinets for a seamless approach which emphasises the size of your space.

5 Make a statement Go for glamour with a bold, statement piece such as a sofa or armchair that will look fabulous against an understated backdrop.

Leolux furniture is now available at Bradbury's. It shouts look at me and will add drama to any room. Leolux does not sacrifice comfort for looks, but provides a perfect blend of imaginative design, supreme comfort and intelligent functionality. If its funky Gisa or Pallone armchairs are just too avant-garde for you, the classic Howlazy sofa with its rotating back supports will surely appeal and will age beautifully.

6 Mismatch furniture Do not be afraid to pick furniture that doesn't necessarily match completely; you can tie pieces together with the subtle use of colours, giving your room a more individual feel. Well chosen pieces will reflect how you have used effort and imagination rather than simply taking the easy option.

7 Turn things around Simply revolving furniture can make a big difference, as in this example where the beautiful curves of a grand piano are exposed once it’s turned to face the room.

8 Smarter storageKeep your new look room clutter free with intelligent storage options. A built in shelving unit is a great choice as, unlike freestanding options, they can be fitted snug to the wall, maximising space.

Coffee tables with hidden storage areas can also be a quick way to hide messy newspapers or children's toys when guests pop round unexpectedly.

9 Colour co-ordinate If you have the time and inclination, colour co-ordinated items will keep things neat and visually appealing.

10 Break up books A good way to break up a wall of books is to include some framed photographs or glass vases to create a feeling of space.
